What do the world’s most successful, richest people know and do differently from other people? What are the secrets of the top 1%? Read on, or watch this video.
Forbes Magazine has the list of the world’s billionaires, and in 2018, there were over 2,200 people on that list. The thing that stood out to me is that over two-thirds of those billionaires are self-made. They didn’t just inherit wealth. They created wealth.
So we know one thing for sure was not the secret to their success, was just going to an Ivy League college. That wasn’t enough.
We can also be sure that they didn’t continue working as employees for somebody else for their whole career. That wasn’t going to cut it.
And the third thing that was not the secret to their success was doubting themselves and thinking small. That was not what they did.
But here are three secrets to their success:
Key #1. They were entrepreneurs. They launched their own businesses.
Key #2. They thought differently and they stepped into being thought leaders.
Key #3. And the third, and perhaps the most important key to their success, was they became powerful, persuasive communicators. They used their words to engage other people in their vision, their mission, their purpose.
They had to use other people’s money, other people’s energy, other people to do the work, so they needed to be strong leaders and communicate what was possible.
For example, Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, is on that Forbes’ 2018 list of billionaires. Forty years ago, he said his vision was “a computer on every desk and in every home,” and it’s happened now because he was a visionary who saw it and enrolled other people in making it happen.
Mark Zuckerberg has changed the face of social media forever through Facebook. He’s changed the way billions of people connect around the world through his vision of what was possible. He’s a communicator who owns a communication platform.
Reed Hastings, the founder of Netflix, has changed the face of broadcasting forever, changed how we watch movies and TV shows. Do you remember when Netflix was that little company that shipped you DVDs in mail and they were threatened by Blockbuster?
But Blockbuster went out of business and Netflix became a media giant. They’ve gone on to change the face of broadcasting. They create, produce, and broadcast movies and TV series. From a little upstart that mailed DVDs to a media giant — amazing. Reed Hastings is another self-made billionaire, a communicator with a communication platform as well.
So Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Reed Hastings, they were powerful communicators with a vision. They launched their businesses, their vision attracted capital, clients, team, partners, and media coverage. And they grew their little companies into very big companies.
